Hasz Twins Finish 1-2 in Lions Meet of Champions

 
Megan and Bethany Hasz, Alexandria, continue to run well this season, taking the top two spots in today's Lions Meet of Champions held at the Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria.
 
 
Megan finished just one second off her personal best with a 13:59.7.
 
 
Bethany was just behind her with a 14:01.2.  Last year's champion, Jenna Truedson (Bemidji), came in wih a 14:23.9 to take the 3rd spot.  Truedson helped lead her team to the title with only 10 points separating the top three girls teams.
 
 
Bemidji secured the title with 124 points, placing their first 4 runners in top 30 of the 135 runner race.  Mounds View finished in second with 132 points, led by 9th grader Natalie Nowatzke (15:16.3)and senior Carly Bandt (15:16.5).  Roseville, led by senior Caroline Brisbois (14:40.2) finished in third with 134 points.
 
 
On the boys side, Bemidji's Sam Carlson and Cretin-Derham Hall's Jacob McDermott approached the final 80 meters neck and neck.
 
 
Carlson took the lead as they rounded the final corner and hit the straight-away to the finish line, improving on last year's 10th place finish with a 16:14.7.
 
 
McDermott crossed the line for a second place finish with a 16:18.6 and junior Bailey Hesse-Withbroe (Stillwater) rounded out the top three with a 16:35.4.
 
 
Hesse-Withbroe helped the Stillwater harriers defend their title with all 5 scoring runners for Stillwater finishing in the top 30, winning with a meet low 68 points.  Mounds View wrapped up the second spot in the boys race with 109 points, followed by Bemidji with 127 points.
