Boys Highlights:

  • US #7 Joe Klecker of Hopkins won his first state title in the 3200m, running wire-to-wire with an 8:57 effort and blazing kick. Watch the video of the kick here! The title comes after finishing fifth last year and third at the cross country state meet. The senior's best this season is 8:50. Klecker was saving energy for his 1600m on Saturday, as he blazed a solo 4:06.54 to complete the distance double! The time is a new state meet record and Minnesota All-Time State Record.
  • In the Boys A Division, Shane Streich doubles in the 1600m (4:12.02) and a a careful 800m (1:54.59). He will run for the University of Minnesota next year.
  • Elk River junior Lucas Trapp avenges his third-place finish at last year's state meet with his first state title, clocking a three-second PR for US #8 1:50.8

Girls Highlights:

  • Two-time NXN All-American Bethany Hasz of Alexandria Jefferson wins her first state title on the track, cruising to a 10:26.4 in the 3200m, a five-second personal best. But it was Saturday when she really stood out, as the junior ran a four-second PR of 4:47.57 to win the 1600m, just a hair ahead of sophomore Tess Misgen of Shakopee, who made it her work for it all the way through the final straight. Misgen, who won the state title as a freshman and was runner-up as an eighth-grader, recorded a two-second personal best of 4:48.54.
  • Ruby Stauber of Wayzata ran a two-second PR of 2:06.5 for 800m to break the Minnesota All-Time State Record ahead of Kaytlyn Larson of Lakeville South (2:10.82). 2015 is the first track season that Stauber has truly focused on the 800m, she placed third in the state meet in the 400m last year.
