It's Championships Galore On Conference Tuesday!

Weather: Low 70's and sunny

BOYS

Top Teams: Chanhassen (40 points), Benilde-St. Margarets (63), Chaska (84), Bloomington Jefferson (87)

Top Individuals: Nicholas Scheller (Chanhassen, 16:07), Torin Christianson (Chanhassen, 16:16), Lloyd Young (Bloomington Kennedy, 16:29), John Starkey (Chaska, 16:56), Peter Lynch (BSM, 16:57)

The Skinny: Chanhassen was dealt a blow this season when Zach Long went out with a stress fracture in early September. It is up in the air as to when he will be able to return and if he will be able to compete at Sections, but thankfully Chanhassen they still have #7-ranked Nicholas Scheller, Torin Christianson and a deep enough supporting cast that they ought to be able to pull out a victory at their conference championships over Benilde-Saint Margaret's and Chaska without him. Scheller and Christianson are also the two overall favorites in the competition, but they do need to watch out for Kennedy;s Lloyd Young, a fast starter who could possibly hang on long enough to break up the one-two finish for the Chanhassen duo.

Top Individuals: Elena Hayday (Bloomington Jefferson, 18:46), Tracy Renier (BSM, 18:52), Meghan Pierson (Chanhassen, 19:07), Olivia Anderson (Chaska, 19:29), Josephine Mosby (Saint Louis Park, 19:32)

The Skinny: Bloomington Jefferson will be locked on a very tight competition next week for a qualifying spot for State, so grabbing a win in their conference meet could help provide the momentum and confidence they need. They've got a little cushion over the young team from Chanhassen, but not enough that they can be totally comfortable with where they stand, and Chanhassen could pull off an upset if everything goes right. The individual battle will be very exciting between Jefferson's Hayday and BSM's Tracy Renier, and it fact you could argue that Renier is the one who has had the better, more consistant season despite Hayday having a better season best. Don't count out Meghan Pierson, however, as her 19:07 season best is within striking-distance of both of her senior rivals.
