Wayzata (MN)
The defending Heartland champions only return two runners from last year's NXN squad, and this year will, in fact, consist of 100% seniors. But if you can count on any team to rise to the occasion, this would certainly be the team. This crop of seniors were in 6th grade the last time Wayzata did not advance to NXN. Indeed, the two wins over Edina and the third-place finish at Griak will look good in the wild card selection even if Wayzata does not manage a top-two finish. But while depth has never been a point of weakness for Wayzata (in fact, Wayzata arguably has the best #7 runner in the entire field), the 47-second gap between their top runner Andrew Brandt and the rest of their pack needs to shrink, or else they risk piling up way too many points between their number 2 through number 5 runners to even be in a position to be a wild card.
