Sprinters lead the way at Capital City Championships

The St. Kate's track and field team continued their steady progression as the end of their season approaches. Competing at the Capital City Championships against the other colleges in St. Paul, the Wildcats set two new school records and finished third with 80.33 team points.

The Wildcats sprinters took advantage of some favorable sprint conditions to turn in a host of season, personal and school records.

In the 100 meter dash, Sam Levercom continued to excel. She finished third overall and set a new St. Kate's school record with a time of 12.59.

In the 200 meter dash, Kim Engel, Levercom, and Kayla Engel finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th, respectively.  Kim's time of 26.36 was a new SCU school record. Levercom's time of 26.46 is now #3 all-time at St. Kate's. Kelsie Hansen (28.03) and Jasmin Hardin (28.87) both turned in new collegiate best times as well.

The Engel's returned to lead a quartet of Wildcats across the line. Kim Engel came across the line first for SCU  with time of 59.06, which was a new personal best and moved her to #3 all-time at St. Kate's. Kayla Engel finished third (59.78), Erin Coughlin was fourth with a new personal best (60.51) and Amanda Manship set a new personal best as well (60.75) as the Wildcats took the 2nd through 5th place spots in the event.

Renee Crepeau (5:29.71) and teammate Mary Beth Kowitz (5:37.15) set personal bests in the 1500 meter run.

The Wildcats 4x100 meter relay team of Jennifer Ampe, Coughlin, Engel and Levercom set a new season best with a time of 50.92 to finish third.

Other top finishes for the Wildcats included:
- Kristina Popov 4th in the pole vault,
- Marie O'Neil had new season best and finished fourth in the triple jump.

The WIldcats return to the track for the final tune-up before the MIAC Championships on Wednesday May 5th at the Tommie Twilight Meet, at the University of St. Thomas.
