WINONA, Minn.-- Nick Ward (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) claimed his second career outdoor conference title and Rick Wolke (SO, Belle Plaine, Minn.) recorded two top three finishes to lead the Augsburg College men's track and field team to a fifth-place team finish at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference outdoor championships, held Friday and Saturday at St. Mary's University.

As a team, Augsburg placed fifth at the MIAC meet with 77 points. The fifth-place finish marks the highest Augsburg has finished at the outdoor conference championships under head coach Dennis Barker, and is the best outdoor championship team score in school history.

Ward won the conference title in the 100-meter dash for the second time in the three years, recording a time of 10.92 seconds. Ward also recorded a third-place finish in the long jump event with a distance of 6.44 meters (21-feet-1.25).

Wolke recorded a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash, posting an NCAA championships provisional qualifying time and school-record time of 21.61 seconds. Wolke also recorded a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash, finishing with a time of 11.30 seconds. 

Wolke and Ward are both members of the Augsburg 400-meter relay team that recorded a second-place finish with a school-record time of 41.94 seconds. The relay team's effort fell just .04 seconds short of the NCAA championships provisional qualifying mark. The Augsburg 1,600-meter relay team finished in fifth place with a time of 3:19.74.

Brent Haglund (SR, Fridley, Minn.) finished third in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 32:01.14, and fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a season best time of 15:09.47. Haglund registered an NCAA championships provisional qualifying time in the 10,000 earlier this season.  

Matthew Schafer (FY, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) recorded a third-place finish in the 1,500-meter run, posting a school-record time of 3:57.20.

James Strand (SR, Brainerd, Minn.) recorded a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, posting season-best time of 54.73 seconds.

Shane Wyborny (SR, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) recorded a ninth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a season best time of 9:44.74.

Shane Pantila (JR, St. Michael, Minn./SM-Albertville HS) recorded two top-six finishes in the triple jump and hammer throw events. Pantila recorded a second-place finish in the triple jump with a NCAA championships provisional qualifying distance of 14.24 meters (46-feet-8.75), while finishing in sixth place with a throw of 49.15 meters (161-feet-3) in the hammer throw.

Triple-jumper Emmanuel Marcellino (SO, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) finished with a season best distance of 13.64 meters (44-feet-9) to finish in sixth place in the event. 

Augsburg will next compete at the Wisconsin-LaCrosse Last Chance Qualifier on Thursday (5/20).
