Schafer leads Auggies at triangular

MINNEAPOLIS -- Matt Schafer (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) led the Auggies with a second-place individual finish in their season debut meet, a triangular with Bethel University and the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Scafer completed the over 5,000 meter course in Riverside Park with a time of 16:14. As a team, Augsburg finished second in the meet with 43 team points, while Bethel claimed top honors with 28 points, and UW-Superior finished third with 63 points.

Joe Arnold (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) ran a strong race for Augsburg to finish in sixth place with a time of 17:00, cutting off over a minute from his time in this race a year ago. Teammate Daniel Gerber (JR, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) recorded an eighth place finish with a time of 17:07, also finishing over a minute faster than a season ago.  

Geoffrey Gillmor (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) finished in 13th place with a time of 17:40 and rounding out the top-five for Augsburg was Adam Carlsen, (FY) who claimed a 16th place finish with a time of 18:24.

The Auggies next competition will be Saturday, September 18 when they travel to Northfield, Minn. to compete at the St. Olaf College Invitational.
