RESULTS
WAVERLY, Iowa -- Battling through a windy, blustery and rainy day at the Max Cross Country Course, the Augsburg College men's cross country team concluded its 2010 season with a 20th-place team finish at the NCAA Division III Central Regional on Saturday afternoon.
Leading the way for Augsburg was
Matt Schafer (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS), who finished in 52nd place with a time of 26:35.0 over the 8,000-meter course. An All-MIAC honorable-mention selection this season, Schafer finished as the top Auggie runner in six out of the team's seven races during the 2010 season.
Finishing second for the Auggies was
Geoffrey Gillmor (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS), who recorded a time of 27:26.8. Gilmor's time is five seconds faster than the time he recorded at the MIAC championships two weeks ago.
Joe Arnold (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) finished as the third Augsburg runner, recording a personal-best time of 27:33.8. Arnold's time is almost 45 seconds faster than the time he recorded at the MIAC championships.
Rounding out the top five finishers for Augsburg were rookies
Micheale Tesema (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) and
Dakota Darkstar (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS), who recorded times of 28:05.4 and 28:12.5 respectively. Tesema has finished as one of the Auggies top-five finishers in each event the team has participated in during the season.
Also competing for Augsburg were runners
Daniel Gerber (JR, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) and
Ryan Norman (SO, North Branch, Minn.), who recorded times of 28:29.8 and 29:14.2 respectively.
The NCAA Division III Central Regional marks the final meet of the season for the Augsburg men's cross country team. The Auggies will return a number of key runners in 2011, and will look to continue their climb up the conference and regional standings.
