ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Augsburg College sprinter
Nick Ward (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) recorded two top-seven finishes as the Auggie men's track and field team opened up the indoor season at the University of St. Thomas Invitational on Friday evening.
Ward, the defending 55-meter dash MIAC champion, looked to be in midseason form at the Tommie Invite, while recording a third-place finish in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.49 seconds. Ward went on to finish seventh in the 200-meter dash, while posting a time of 23.30 seconds.
Augsburg sprinters
Rick Wolke (JR, Belle Plaine, Minn.) and
Joe Arnold (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) finished eighth and ninth respectively in the 400-meter dash, recording times of 51.28 and 51.46 in the race. Arnold's time is a personal-best during his three-year career at Augsburg.
Matthew Schafer (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) recorded a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter run while posting a time of 1:59.78.
Triple jumper
Shane Pantila (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) also recorded a top individual finish for Augsburg, finishing fourth in the event with a distance of 13.45 meters (44-feet-1.75).
The Auggies return to action on Saturday (1/29) at the University of Wisconsin-Stout Warren Bowlus Invitational in Menomonie, Wis.
