Ward, Schafer win events at UW-Stout Invite

MEET RESULTS

MENOMONIE, Wis.-- Nick Ward (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) recorded first-place finishes in the 55 meter dash and the long jump, while teammate Matthew Schafer (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) recorded a first-place finish in the 1,000-meter run to lead the Augsburg College men's track and field team at the University of Wisconsin-Stout Warren Bowlus Open on Saturday afternoon. No team results were recorded at the event.

Ward, the Augsburg school record-holder in the 55-meter dash and long jump, continued his torrid start to the 2011 indoor season by recording a time of 6.50 seconds in the 55-meter dash. Ward's distance of 6.84 meters in the long jump is just short of his best effort from last season, and is the top distance recorded in the MIAC so far this season.

Schafer broke his own school record en route to winning the 1,000-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:32.71. Schafer also owns the indoor school record in the 800-meter run.

Augsburg's Rick Wolke (JR, Belle Plaine, Minn.) also had a great day in Menomonie, recording a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.83 seconds, as well as a third-place finish in the 55-meter dash. Wolke's times were both personal bests.

Joe Arnold (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) recorded a time of 51.44 seconds in the 400-meter dash to finish in third place.

Dakota Darkstar (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest HS) had the best performance of his young career, finishing the 1,000-meter race with a time of 2:42.66 to finish in eighth-place.

Shane Pantila (SR, St. Michael, Minn./SM-Albertville HS) recorded a fifth-place finish in the triple-jump, with a 13.33-meter effort.

Augsburg returns to action next Saturday (2/5) as they travel to Arden Hills to compete in the Bethel University Invitational.
