Auggie men record four wins at Carleton Invite

MEET RESULTS

NORTHFILED, Minn.-- Nick Ward (Coon Rapids, Minn.) Rick Wolke (JR, Belle Plaine, Minn.) Matthew Schafer (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) and Micheale Tesema (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) recorded victories in the 55-meter dash, 400-meter dash, mile run, and 5,000-meter run to lead the Augsburg College men's track and field team to a fourth-place team finish at the Carleton College Meet of Hearts Saturday afternoon.

Ward, a winner in the 55-meter dash for the third weekend in a row, recorded a time of 6.54 seconds at the meet. Ward currently owns the fastest 55-meter dash time among MIAC competitors this season.

Wolke recorded a time of 51.52 seconds in the 400-meter dash finals en-route to a first-place finish. Wolke currently holds the fifth-fastest 400 time in the MIAC this season.

Schafer recorded a time of 4:20.96 to finish first in the mile run and set a new school record in the process. The first-place finish marks the third different event Schafer has won during the 2011 indoor season, as he has recorded wins in the 1,000 meter run and 600-yard dash earlier this year. Schafer now holds indoor school records in the 800-meter, 1,000-meter and mile run competitions.  

Tesema finished first in the 5,000-meter run, recording a season- and personal-best time of 16:16.24. 

Other top performers for Augsburg included sprinter Gil Millette (SO, Brainerd, Minn.) who recorded a fifth-place finish in the 55-meter dash with a season-best time of 6.94 seconds.
 
Jacob Wolf (FY, Elk River, Minn.) recorded top five finishes in the 200- and 400-meter dashes. Wolf finished third in the 400 with a season-best time of 54.04 seconds, and went on to add a fifth-place finish in the 200 while recording a time of 23.99 seconds. Wolf's time in the 200 also marked a season best.

Joe Arnold (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) recorded a third-place finish in the 600-yard dash, finishing with a season-best time of 1:17.67.  

Dakota Darkstar (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest HS) recorded a second-place finish in the 800-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:06.10. Darkstar also added a third-place finish in the mile run, finishing with a season-best time of 4:37.61. 

Triple jumper Shane Pantila (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) recorded a distance of 12.17 meters  en-route to a third-place finish in the triple jump. 

The Auggies return to action on Friday (2/18) at the University of Minnesota Snowshoe Open in Minneapolis.
