Ward wins two events in final tune-up before MIAC Championships

MEET RESULTS

NORTHFIELD, Minn.-- Nick Ward (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) recorded a season-best time of 22.94 seconds en route to a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash to lead the Augsburg men's track and field team at the St. Olaf College Ole Open Friday evening. No team results were recorded at the meet.

Ward, who currently owns the fastest 55-meter dash time in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this season, added another first-place finish at the Ole Open in the long jump, recording a season-best distance of 6.86 meters (22-feet-5.75). Ward's distance in the long jump ranks as the top mark among MIAC competitors in the event this season.

Two other Auggie sprinters joined Ward with top-10 finishes in the 200-meter dash, as Joe Arnold (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) finished third with a season-best time of 23.23 seconds, and Jacob Wolf (FY, Elk River, Minn.) finished ninth with a season-best time of 23.81 seconds.

Matthew Schafer (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) continued his spectacular 2011 indoor season as he recorded a second-place finish in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 1:57.68.

In the distance races, Dakota Darkstar (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest HS) recorded a seventh-place finish in the mile run with a season-best time of 4:34.61, while teammate Tony Fremling (JR, Brookston, Minn./AlBrook HS) set a new season-best time in the mile run by almost nine seconds en route to a 12th-place finish.

In the relays, the Augsburg 800-meter relay team raced to a second-place finish with a season-best time of 1:32.23. The Auggies currently hold the second fastest 800-meter relay time in the MIAC this season.

Emmanuel Marcellino (JR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) recorded a fourth-place finish in the triple jump competition with a season best distance of 12.89 meters (42-feet-3.75).

The Ole Open marked the tuneup before the MIAC Indoor Championships March 3-5 at the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minn. Championship schedules and information can be found here
