St. PAUL, Minn.-- The Augsburg College women's 800-meter relay team set a new school record, en route to a first-place finish in the event at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at the University of St. Thomas.

As a team, Augsburg finished in seventh place with a total of 51 points. The Auggies' seventh-place finish marks the highest Augsburg has finished at the MIAC Women's Indoor Championships since 2005.

The 800-meter relay team of Shanek Telphia (SO, Chicago, Ill./Gage Park HS), Ashley Carney (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS), Dawn Flowers (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Arlington HS) and Katie Vrieze (SR, Richfield, Minn.) also set a new MIAC Indoor Championships record with the 1:42.50 clocking. The quartet's victory in the relay marks the first time in school history that Augsburg has finished first in the event at the MIAC indoor meet.

The Augsburg 1,600-meter relay team also had a strong showing, capturing a fifth-place finish and breaking another school record with a time of 4:05.29. Telphia and Vrieze were joined by Kacie Bahr (JR, Brainerd, Minn.) and Caroline Senungi (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) on the team, which broke the previous school record set in 2004.

In addition to their performance in the relays, the Augsburg sprinters also contributed to the team's overall point total in the individual races, as Telphia and Vrieze finished second and third respectively in the 400-meter dash. Telphia's time of 58.94 seconds marks her fastest time of the season, and fell just three-tenths of a second short of the NCAA national championships provisional qualifying time. Vrieze's time of 59.61 seconds also ranked as a season-best time, while Bahr also recorded a season-best time of 1:02.01 to finish 13th.

Telphia would later add another second-place finish in the 200-meter dash, as she recorded a time of 25.51 seconds in the race. Vrieze also added a seventh-place finish in the 200, recording a season-best time of 26.52 seconds.

The Auggies also recorded two top-eight finishers in the 55-meter dash, as Carney and Telphia finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Carney's time of 7.47 seconds marks her fastest time of the season.

Senungi finished with a season best time of 8.67 seconds to record a fourth-place finish in the finals of the women's 55-meter hurdles on Friday evening.

In the field events, pole vaulter Brittany Tuberg (SO, Apple Valley, Minn.) closed out the indoor portion of the season with a fourth-place conference finish. Turberg recorded a height of 3.15 meters (10-feet-4), which was just short of a season-best mark in the event.

The conference championship meet marks the end of the indoor season for the Augsburg women's track and field team. The outdoor portion of the schedule is slated to begin on March 19 in Los Angeles, Cali. at the University of Southern California Trojan Invitational.
