Ward leads Auggies at Trojan Invite

MEET RESULTS

LOS ANGELES -- Nick Ward (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) recorded two top-10 finishes to lead the Augsburg College men's track and field team in its outdoor season-opener at the University of Southern California Trojan Invite this past weekend. No team results were recorded.

Ward, who recently competed at the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships, finished fourth in the long jump competition this past weekend, recording a distance of 6.68 meters (21-feet-11). The distance marked Ward's best performance in the outdoor long jump since 2009. Ward also recorded a 10th-place finish in the 100-meter dash and a 13th-place finish in the 200-meter dash, recording times of 10.91 sseconds and 22.25 seconds respectively.

Sprinter Joe Arnold (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) also had a solid performance at the Trojan Invite, recording a time of 23.01 seconds in the 200-meter dash, and a time of 50.66 seconds in the 400-meter dash. Arnold's time in the 200 marked a personal best.

Matthew Schafer (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) recorded a time of 4:04.77 in the 1,500-meter run to finish in 13th place. Schafer was the top NCAA Division III performer in the field.

Triple jumper Shane Pantila (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) got the outdoor portion of the season off to a solid start, as he recorded a distance of 13.63 meters (44-feet-8.75) to finish in sixth place.

Other notable Augsburg individual performers were Gil Millette (SO, Brainard, Minn.)n who recorded times of 11.69 seconds and 23.95 seconds in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Dakota Darkstar (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest HS) recorded a time of 4:15.69 in the 1,500-meter run.

The Auggies return to action on April 2 at the Hamline University Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
