RIVER FALLS, Wis.--
Nick Ward (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) claimed a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash to lead the Augsburg College men's track and field team at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcon Invitational Saturday afternoon. As a team, Augsburg finished in 12th-place with a total of 37 points.
Ward, a winner in the 100 at last weekend's Hamline University Invitational, clocked a time of 10.93 seconds to pull away from a field that included sprinters from NCAA division two and three institutions. Ward currently owns the top 100-meter time among MIAC competitors, and is the only MIAC 100-meter sprinter to have a NCAA provisional qualifying time this season.
In the 200-meter dash, Augsburg sprinter
Rick Wolke (JR, Belle Plaine, Minn.) finished in sixth-place with a time of 22.49 seconds, while teammate
Joe Arnold (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) finished in 11th-place with a time of 22.67 seconds.
Matthew Schafer (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) recorded a 10th-place finish in the 800-meter run, as he finished with a time of 2:00.05.
Hunter Melius (FY, Shakopee, Minn.) recorded a time of 10:37.11 in the 3000-meter steeplechase competition.
In the relays, the Augsburg 4x100 meter team recorded a second-place finish with a season-best time of 42.11 seconds. The Augsburg time currently ranks as the fastest time among MIAC 4x100 meter relay teams this season.
In the field events, Ward recorded a second place finish in the long jump, reaching a distance of 6.75 meters (22-01 3/4). Ward currently owns the top distance among MIAC competitors this season.
Augsburg returns to action next Saturday (4/16) in St. Paul, Minn. at the Holst Invitational hosted by Concordia-St. Paul University.
