MIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MINNEAPOLIS-- Augsburg College sprinter Shanek Telphia (SO, Chicago, Ill./Gage Park HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track and Field Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.

At Saturday's Wisconsin-River Falls Falcon Invitational, Telphia recorded a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 12.67 seconds. Telphia currently owns two top-three finishes in the 100 this season, including a win at the Hamline Invitational on April 2.

In addition to her performance in the 100, Telphia helped the Augsburg 4x100-meter relay team to a victory and an NCAA national championship provisional qualifying time at the Falcon Invitational. As the relay team anchor, Telphia and the Auggies recorded a time of 48.48 seconds on Saturday.

According to the raceberryjam.com website, Telphia currently holds the top times among MIAC women competitors in the 100 and 200-meter events, and her time of 25.04 seconds in the 200 is already a NCAA championship provisional time. Telphia also owns the fourth-best distance in the long jump this season.

It's the third time Telphia has earned MIAC Athlete of the Week honors in her career, and marks the second time she has won the award this season.

Augsburg returns to action this Saturday (4/16) at 12 p.m. at the Concordia-St. Paul Holst Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
