Auggie men in action at Last Chance Qualifier

MEET RESULTS

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- Augsburg College sprinters Gil Millette (SO, Brainard, Minn.), Rick Wolke (JR, Belle Plaine, Minn.), Joe Arnold (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.), and Nick Ward (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) recorded a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter relay at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Last Chance Qualifier Thursday evening. No team results were recorded at the meet.

The Augsburg relay team, fresh off of the school's first-ever outdoor conference title in the event at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships, recorded a time of 42.37 seconds at the Last Chance Qualifier. The Auggie relay team's top 2011 time of 42.11 seconds, recorded on April 8 at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Falcon Invite, was the fastest time recorded by an MIAC team in the event this season.

Other top individual performances for Augsburg at the Last Chance Qualifier included Arnold's eighth-place finish in the 400-meter dash, as he clocked a time of 49.91 seconds in the race. Arnold finished the season with the fourth-best time recorded among MIAC competitors in the event.

Middle distance runner Matthew Schafer (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) recorded a 13th place finish in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 1:55.11. According to the directathletics.com website, Schafer currently owns the 20th fastest time among NCAA Division III participants in the 800 this season. During the 2010 outdoor season, the top 16 individuals qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Sprinter Rick Wolke also competed in the 200-meter dash, recording a time of 22.79 seconds to finish in 13th place. Wolke finished the season with the 10th-fastest time among MIAC participants in the 200 this year.

MIAC triple jump champion Shane Pantila (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) also competed at the Last Chance Qualifier Thursday and recorded a 10th-place finish in the event with a distance of 13.54 meters (44-feet-5.25).

Schafer and Ward, who owns the 16th-fastest 100-meter dash time among NCAA Division III sprinters, will find out Sunday if they move on to compete in the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio May 26-28.
