Minnesota XC Girls Composite Rankings by MSHSL Class Teri Durbin Aug 09, 2013

MileSplit just developed a brand new number-cruncher, allowing us to do these rankings. The rather complicated algorithm takes into account both cross country and track seasons, based on various categories and weights.  It even indicates what the computer believes the biggest weakness is at this point.

Teams that did not have much of a track season or did not have at least four of their top distance runners out for track may see their scores drop. However, teams that busted it and looked great this spring will show higher. Hopefully it is a good balance to predict who is strong coming in! It does not necessarily take into account any new freshman or transfers.

The score represents the team's weighted composite average rank across all categories. The "highest" column represents the highest ranking they received in a category, and conversely the lowest is the worst ranking they received in a category.

Because Minnesota is not a subscriber state, you can see stuff like this all the time. If we choose to move to a subscription status, this new feature--called composite team rankings--would be locked, available only to subscribers. You can use this tool, like all of our others, to crunch it by other parameters or by district/region/class/conference, etc.

*NOTE: The algorithm has been updated to reflect the 4k distance for girls in Minnesota.

Minnesota XC Boys Composite Rankings by MSHSL Class Teri Durbin Aug 01, 2013

I've finally been able to compile the boy's pre-season composite rankings by class, rather than as one group.  It doesn't look like I'll be able to post the girl's composite rankings anytime soon so will post through our traditional ranking system, looking at just last fall's CC season.

We'll publish the girl's lists tomorrow but, because the rankings are currently based on a CC distance of 5k, the girl's lists are limited.  Because Minnesota is not a subscriber state, you can see stuff like this all the time. If we choose to move to a subscription status, this new feature--called composite team rankings--would be locked, available only to subscribers.
