Grant Krieger (The Blake School) has verbally committed to Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. He will compete as a pole vaulter and decathlete for the Demon Deacons. In a recent conversation with Grant, he indicated that the first factor in his desire to go South for college was competing against Southern athletes at the national level. “I was always jealous of the Texas kids I competed against at Nationals because they could train all year without worrying about the weather.”

RACE HIGHLIGHTS: Anna Rohrer of Mishawaka, Ind., and Jake Leingang of Bismark, N.D., won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) Midwest Regional today. The girls’ race was dominated by a tight group of runners, with the lead exchanging several times. At the two-mile mark, Rohrer made her move to take the lead and never looked back, breaking the course record in 16:54. (The previous course record was held by Claire Durkin of Columbus, Ohio at 17:01 in 2007.) Taylor Werner of Bloomsdale, Mo., placed second in 17:06, and Maria Hauger of Shakopee, Minn., placed third in 17:07. Hauger is a two-time FLCCC National Finalist
In the boys’ race, Nicholas Raymond of Erie, Mich., was in the lead at the one-mile and two-mile marks. At 2.5 miles, Leingang, a senior from Bismarck High School, and Sam Wharton of Tipp City, Ohio, surged ahead of Raymond to battle for the coveted first place spot. Leingang claimed the title in 14:56, and Wharton placed second in 14:56. Raymond finished in 15:02, placing third. Leingang is a two-time FLCCC National Finalist.

Kenosha, Wis., November 20, 2012– Maria Hauger will compete at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships Midwest Regional race on Saturday, Nov. 24 at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wis. Maria Hauger of Shakopee, MN, returns to compete against some of the best runners in the region for a coveted spot in the national finals. Hauger, a senior, placed 21st in last year’s national race.

State Cross Country Running Meet
Two team champions return to defend 2011 titles;
Three individual champions return
Two team champions return this Saturday, Nov. 3, when the Minnesota State High School
League’s 2012 State Girls’ and Boys’ Cross Country Running Meet is conducted at St. Olaf College in
Northfield. The St. Cloud Cathedral boys (Class A) and the Stillwater Area boys (Class AA) are both in
the hunt for their second consecutive titles.
Three individual champions also return in search of more gold. Senior Maria Hauger of
Shakopee is looking to become the first Class AA runner to win four consecutive titles, while junior
Clare Flanagan is seeking her second consecutive Class A crown. Esko senior Marisa Shady, who took
top honors in Class A in 2010, also returns. She is looking to improve on last year’s third-place
showing.
The girls run a 4,000-meter course. The boys run a 5,000-meter course.

Richfield’s Obsa Ali, wearing bib 391, threw up about two miles into this Classic Suburban Conference preview cross-country meet Tuesday. He still won by nearly a minute.
Within 96 hours last week, Richfield junior Obsa Ali won a conference cross-country meet in which he vomited during the race, played most of an overtime soccer game in which he was cleated and won another meet Friday.
