MileSplit is Hiring: Server Administrator with Development Chops

We are hiring! Always dreamed of working for a company in the sport you love? Now is your chance!

We are a small company headquartered just north of Orlando, Florida but we are also distributed around the country. Our philosophy is 100% cloud oriented from the tools we use to where we host our servers to the geographic diversity of our staff.

Our ideal candidate is enthusiastic about the latest technology, tackling new challenges head first, and deliverying a wonderful product to our passionate audience of track & field fans. Someone in the Orlando area would be a big plus, but we are open to telecommuters as well.

One of the best parts of the job is that is fast moving and evolving. We are nimble and move from project to project rather quickly. So it's a great opportunity to keep it interesting and expanding your skill set. The fact that our sites generate a lot of traffic and live in the Amazon Cloud also introduce unique challenges. If you are the introverted self-motivated type and embrace learning, challenges, and innovation in a laid back atmosphere then this job is for you.

Experience/Education Requirements

  • College Degree Required (in any field of study) -- Our Founder/CEO (who wrote the basis for the entire platform) majored in journalism, so we can't very well require a Computer Science degree. We would, however, like to see some sort of college degree.
  • Experience in the industry required... either professional experience or personal or open source experience. We would like to see projects you've worked on to reference.

Near Master Level Skills Required:

  • Linux Server Administration (Ubuntu)
  • PHP
  • HTML5/CSS/JavaScript

Any of These Skills Would be a Plus:

  • MySQL
  • Cloud Computing (especially Amazon Web Services)
  • Memcache
  • Lighttpd
  • Node.JS
  • Redis
  • Load Balancing and High Traffic Sites
  • Sphinx
  • Video Encoding (ffmpeg)
  • Track & Field Experience

We also work with these:

  • Github
  • Basecamp
  • Stripe (Credit Card Processing)
  • Google Analytics
  • jQuery

Compensation

The salary is competitive and negotiable based on your skills and experience, relative to this part of the country. Flexibility of hours and the option to telecommute are nice perks.

How to Apply

If you are interested, please send your resume with related work experience. I would also like to see references and samples of your work--a portfolio or link to your Github open source contributions would be great.
