ALLENDALE - The Calvin men's indoor track and field team scored 30 points and finished in seventh place in a field of 20 teams at the Mike Lints Open hosted by Grand Valley State University Friday.
The Knights were strong in the 5,000 meters as freshman Zac Nowicki (Comstock Park/Calvin Christian HS) won the race in a stellar time of 15:24.13. Nowicki was part of four Calvin runners that scored in the race as sophomore Ethan Anderson (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater Area HS) was third (15:26.86), junior Steven Haagsma (Grandville/Calvin Christian HS) fourth (15:34.65) and junior Josh Ferguson (Naperville, IL/Nequa Valley HS) fifth (15:38.95).
Also he did not score in the event, senior David Vande Bunte (Byron Center/Byron Center HS) had a big race in the 3,000 meters, placing ninth with a time of 8:35.55.
Junior Erik Holstege (Kewsick, VA/Monticello HS) came up with a sixth place time in the 60 meter hurdles (8.59) and then took ninth in the long jump (21-5 1/2).
Sophomore Eric Jipping (Canton/Plymouth Christian HS) showed signs of good things to come by placing seventh in the shot put with a throw of 48-10.
Calvin will travel to Kankakee, Illinois, next weekend to compete at the NAIA/DIII Challenge hosted by Olivet Nazarene University.
