Interview With Peter Asplin

First of all, how did you first start running?

I started track in 8th grade after my older brother talked me into it.

What are all your personal records, including cross country?

I am an 8-time all-conference recipient. Three in 110 hurdles, three in 300 hurdles, and two in triple jump. In 110s my best is 14.4 and in 300s its 39.24

Do you do, or have you done, any sports other than track?

I played football all four years and basketball till 10th grade

What is your favorite or most memorable race you have ever run?

I think my most memorable race was sophomore year at sections running the 110s. I was winning the race and then clipped a hurdle and went down losing the race and that humbled me a lot and made me respect the race more. But I think that's why I love hurdles so much, because you never know who's gonna win. It's always up for grabs.

Did you feel like you had something to prove after that race? And do you think you're better off now having experienced that than if you would have won the race?

For the first part, yeah, for sure. And for the second part, I probably think so.

What made you decide to do hurdles? Is that what your brother did?

 Yes, my broth ran them.

If you weren't doing hurdles, what track (or field) events do you think you would be doing instead (assuming you still would triple jump)?

Long jump maybe and probably sprints.

What are your main goals for this upcoming season?

State Champ in both hurdles. You've got to set your goals high.

Do you have any college plans?

For college I'd like to either go for construction management and or architecture. I'm still deciding on where to go.

Do you have any rituals or superstitions either on or off the track?

I say a prayer before every race.

When not clearing barriers or training to do so, what might we find you doing?

I love to be outdoors hunting or fishing and also tinkering with anything that has an engine. Ducks and pheasants are my favorite things to hunt.

Tell me one bizarre fact about yourself.

I have 4 brothers 1 older and 3 younger and my youngest brother was born on my birthday exactly 10 years apart.
