Ten Class AA Girls Ready To Challenge For The Title In 2018

Emily Covert, Minneapolis Washburn, Sr

Fresh off her dominating 2018 track campaign, Covert is ready to shine again on the cross country course. After finally achieving her first State title in the 2017 cross country season, she will try to defend her title as a senior. Her track season this past spring speaks for itself as she threatened to break records every time that she stepped on the track. Covert ran sub-10:20 in the 3200m and sub 5:00 in the 1600m five times each. She won the State Track & Field meet by 34 seconds with an impressive 10:06.19, which landed her Minnesota's All-Time State record. Less than a week later she finished runner-up at the New Balance National Championships with a 10:05.19 in the 2-mile event. This performance broke her own state record with the time converting to a 10:01.68 3200m. Considering the record-setting reputation Covert has attained in the past year, she is a strong favorite to win the title again this season.
