Semira Killebrew Sets New Indoor State Record

Over the weekend, Indianapolis saw seven inches of snow fall, but down in Arkansas, one of Lynna Irby's indoor state records fell. Brebeuf Jesuit senior, Semira Killebrew competed at the Arkansas High School Invitational in the 60m and 200m. In the prelims of the 60m dash, Killebrew took it easy with a 7.42. Later in the finals she had one mission, to win. Coming in with the best time from prelims allowed her to get the best lane, 4, right in the middle. Right from the gun, she was off and continued to gain speed as she went. Killebrew easily won, crossing in 7.37, with Alexis Brown from TX taking 2nd in 7.59.

Killebrew's time of 7.37, now gives her the #1 all-time best 60m dash time in the state of Indiana, topping Lynna Irby's previous time of 7.39, set back in 2017 at NBNI. Earlier this season, Semira Killebrew has begun to knock on the door, by going 7.42 at the Warrior Invite at Indiana Tech in December.

This was Killebrew's first trip to the Arkansas Invite. The past few years she has made the trip to the Texas A&M Classic and the Vanderbilt HS Invitational, as well as the UK Invite.

In the 200m, no new state records yet for the senior, but she did take 2nd in the prelims with a 24.03, winning her heat. In the finals she took 3rd overall with a 24.21, finishing behind Arria Minor and Jayla Hollis. Her 24.03 currently puts her 2nd all-time in Indiana, based on the MileSplit database, right behind Lynna Irby who's time of 23.58 from the 2017 NBNI currently holds as the best. Killebrew has a few more opportunities this indoor season to break that record, as she is returning to the UK Invite and is entered in the MileSplit/SPIRE Scholastic Showcase, which will both provide very competitive races close to home.
