Wilson and Killebrew Shine at SPIRE Showcase

Semira Killebrew started out 2019 with a new state record in the 60m dash, but she wasn't ready to let off the gas just yet. This past weekend she made the trip to Geneva, OH for the MileSplit/SPIRE Showcase where she competed in the 60m dash and the 200m. She blazed through prelims in the 60 with a 7.46 to take first by .03 seconds. Then she really turned on the turbo boost in the finals to storm to a new meet record and leaving her competition behind, crossing in 7.36 seconds. This lowered her own state record by .01 as well. In the 200m not too long after the 60m dash finals, she ended up taking silver with a 24.29.

Killebrew is set to race this upcoming weekend at the UK High School Invite in Lexington. She comes in with the fastest seed times out of any of the participants. Coverage will be available from KYtrackXC on Saturday for the meet, as well as a live stream

Emma Wilson also took her talents over to SPIRE this weekend, competing in the 1600 and the 3200. She started off her day with the 1600, where she popped out a solid IN #1 time of 4:58.28. This is just about 8 seconds off of her lifetime indoor PR of 4:50 which she set last year at the end of the month. Not too long later she dropped an impressive US #1 10:27.53 in the 3200, becoming the first girl this year to drop under 10:30 in the 3200. Her 1600 time also put her at US #13 currently.

Next up for Wilson looks to be New Balance Indoor Nationals. This season Emma Wilson is not competing for her high school, but rather going unattached and competing under a club team, Miles to Go. So we will not see her in outdoor meets that are conducted during the regular IHSAA season, but we should see her entering into some more collegiate level meets and competing unattached in those. She has expressed interest in trying her hand at a few events she usually doesn't get to run during the regular IHSAA season, just to try them out.
