Minnesotans At New Balance Nationals

While high school track & field in Minnesota may not officially start until Monday, a few of Minnesota's brightest stars are taking advantage of the opportunity to travel to The Armory in New York City for this years's New Balance Indoor Nationals. As such, here is a checklist of key information for those interested in tracking the progress of Minnesota's three entrants...

Ethan Peal (Saint Michael-Albertville) - 60m Championships

Ethan is Minnesota's reigning 100m dash champion and owns a career-best time of 10.72 in the event, one of Minnesota's 30 fastest 100m runners ever. He also is a part of the second-fastest 4x100 meter relay in State history in another State-winning effort. The best time for the MSU-Mankato commit in the 60m this indoor season during his races in the USATFMN Indoor series was 6.94 seconds.

  • 60m Championship Prelims - Saturday (March 9th), 8:00 am Central Time
  • 60m Championship Semis - Sunday (March 10th), 10:30 am Central Time (pending qualification)
  • 60m Championship Finals - Sunday (March 10th), 1:05 pm Central Time (pending qualification)

Julia Fixsen (Mounds View) - Pole Vault Championship

Julia Fixsen is Minnesota's two-time defending champion in the pole vault, and last year not only set the all-time state record in the event at 13-11.5, but earned the opportunity to compete at the IAAF U20 World Championships in Tampere, Finland, where she qualified for finals and finished seventh overall in the world. She has seen indoor success too, last year finishing as the runner-up at New Balance Indoor nationals. The best vault of this indoor season for the future Georgia Bulldog is 12-5.5.

  • Pole Vault Championship (Flight 2) - Sunday (March 10th), begins 12:00 pm Central Time

Char Morke (Cambridge-Isanti) - Pole Vault Emerging Elite

Char Morke took 3rd at the MSHSL Class AA Championships in the pole vault back in 2017, and 4th in 2018. After last spring's championships, she continued vaulting on into the summer and cleared 11-11.75 to finish 8th at the USATF National Junior Olympics. However, she has already exceeded last year's mark this indoor season, as she cleared 12-2 during the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, NV in January, making the future US Naval Academy cadet the 12th-best vaulter in state history.
