Kelsie Sealock's Sources Of Inspiration

Kelsie Sealock, Class of 2019 - Osseo High School

What are all your personal records?  What State Meet competitions have you been in, and what were your results?

For the 300 hurdles a 44.38, 100 hurdles 15.04, 200 meter dash 26.38. I went to State for out of Section 5AA in the 300 hurdles, which I ended in third place with a time of 44.38, and the 100 hurdles, where I ended sixth place with a time of 15.04.

How did you first get involved with track, and what other sports have you done?

I first got involved in track & field when my brother, Tyler had done it the year before, and he convinced me to come and try it out. I have played volleyball, softball and basketball.

Who are some of your favorite athletes to compete against?

My teammate Gabby Bodin. Having the benefit of being teammates and friends has helped us push each other to get better every day. Also, Heather Ryan from Maple Grove, since we have been in the same district she pushes me to be ready to compete for each race.

Who are some people that have been most helpful to you in your athletic career, and how have they helped you?

My hurdle coach Hollis, who convinced me to try hurdles in 8th grade which I wasn't very excited about. He challenged me physically and mentally to achieve my dreams even when I'm not always motivated. Also the  other Osseo track coaches, especially sprints, have encouraged and supported me throughout my journey. My Osseo and JO volleyball coaches have all influenced me. My JO volleyball coach during my 16s year, Thanh Pham, has helped me mentally overcome my self doubt and make me a more positive athlete. I can't change the past but I can only focus on the next point and/or race - stay in the moment. My family has always supported me since day one especially my brother Tyler, he helps me analyze my races to help me improve and always reminds me to "just run."

Who might we find cheering for you at competitions?

My mom, dad, four brothers and extended family, friends and teachers.

What is a challenge, or challenges, you have had to face as an athlete?

I have fallen twice in the 300 hurdles in big races, once in Section prelims and the other in Section finals. These challenges have only brought me to cherish every moment when I'm running because anything could happen in a split second that could change the entire race. Also, it pushes me to want to get better every time I'm on the track to prevent that from happening again.

What are your main goals for this track season?

My main goal is to make it back to State in both of the hurdle events and run my personal best.

What are you and your teammates looking forward to the most this year?

My teammates and I are looking forward to competing well in sections and making it to State together.

Do you have any post-graduation plans?

I will be pursing my nursing degree at Bethel University. I will be playing volleyball and potentially running track also.

Do you have any rituals, routines, or superstitions either on or off the track?

As a hurdle crew we all warm up together. I also pray before and after my race.

When not doing anything track-related, what might we find you doing?

I will be spending time with my family and friends at our cabin either wake surfing, playing sand volleyball and enjoying the lake.

What advice would you give to younger athletes, or athletes just starting out in track?

Track & field is a unique sport where you have your individual events but have support of hundreds of teammates. You have support of many coaches encouraging you to do your personal best. If you have a dream to compete in a track & field event you need to put in the work mentally and physically to achieve your dream. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, just follow your heart.

Tell me one bizarre fact about yourself.

I hate the sound and feel of squeaky styrofoam.
