Meet Previews: Week Two Heats Up on Thursday

Bill Glomski Invitational

Location: Bear Cave Park, Stewartville
Weather: sunny, mid-70's
BOYS
Individuals to Watch: Tanner Horton (Pine Island, 16:55), Isaac Dold (Jordan, 17:08), Korrigan Diercks (Saint Charles, 17:10), Jakob Ratelle (Stewartville, 17:15), Kevin Turlington (Rochester Lourdes, 17:20)
The Skinny: The third and fourth place finishers from this meet last year, Korrigan Diercks and Tanner Horton, return to challenge each other for the individual win this year. Both runners went on to qualify for the Class A state meet last year. Horton does not compete in track and field so he could see big jumps in performances without having track times to watch his improvements. Diercks went on a winning streak during the track season, winning seven of the ten races that he competed in. He finished his season with a 1:58.98 personal best, placing him 11th in state. His speed will not be one to mess with if it comes down to the final few meters of the race. The team from Jordan, lead by Isaac Dold, is ranked as the top team ahead of La Crescent-Hokah. La Crescent-Hokah narrowly missed qualifying for the state meet last year after a third place finish at the Section 1A meet. Jordan has the edge over the other teams as they have a front runner and then a solid pack of their 2-5 runners.
GIRLS
Individuals to Watch: Morgan Arnold (Cotter, 18:10), Kailee Malone (Stewartville, 19:04), Lauryn Renier (Rochester Lourdes, 19:06), Meg Degen (Rochester Lourdes, 19:26)
The Skinny: Morgan Arnold will take over leading the Cotter team after losing Grace and Lauren Ping to Arizona. She already knows how to compete on the big stage after finishing fifth at the Class A state meet in 2018. She was third in this race, behind the Ping sisters, last year but looks to take a big win this year. Arnold is always a consistent runner and holds her own against good competition. She was 20th at NXR Heartland and 28th at Footlocker Midwest against some of the top runners in the nation. The battle for second will be on between Kailee Malone from Stewartville and the pair from Rochester Lourdes of Lauryn Renier and Meg Degen. Renier had the strongest finish of her season last year of the three with a 21st place finish at the state meet. She continuously improved throughout the season and finished ahead of the other two in their matchups. Malone will be leading her team from Stewartville as they vy for the win. Not far off will be the teams from Jordan and Rochester Lourdes. Rochester Lourdes has a strong top three but needs their fourth and fifth runner to step up to get close to overtaking the other teams. Stewartville is ranked 11th in the preseason rankings and need to pull off a good win to continue to make their mark.
