Bauman-Rovn Headlines a Busy Thursday Meet Line-up

There is a full slate on Thursday so take a look into what we know about the action that kicks off week two.

Location: Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista

Weather: 78°, partly cloudy

BOYS

Virtual Meet Projections: Eden Prairie (89), Edina (103), Eastview (105)

Individuals to watch: Nicholas Scheller (Chanhassen, 15:29.0), AJ Green (Eastview, 15:42.0), Jake Derouin (Eden Prairie, 15:51.2), Russell Gokemeijer (Edina, 15:58.2), Max Lauerman (Minnetonka, 16:00.6)

The Skinny: There is potential to see full lineups for several of the states best teams for the first time this season. Eden Prairie and Edina have yet to run a full 5k while Eastview debuted at St Olaf last week. Those three teams are the ones projected highest in our rankings, with Minnetonka not far off the pace. If Eden Prairie senior Jake Derouin can be in good form his team would seem to be the favorite with a possible five in the top 30. Chanhassen senior Nicholas Scheller has the fastest PR among a group of four who have broken 16 minutes in their career. Eastview senior AJ Green was sixth at St Olaf last week in 16:13.4 and looks to be ready for the challenge early on this year. Edina senior Russell Gokemeijer and Max Lauerman also figure in the mix among the leaders. Buffalo's Nick Oak won the Champlin Park Rebel 2 mile ahead of Gokemeijer earlier his season and will also be in the field on Thursday. The large field on a well-known course should make for an interesting day of racing that gives more insight as to where some of the state's best class AA talent is at thus far in 2019.

GIRLS

Virtual Meet Projections: Edina (30), Eden Prairie (71), Marshall (89), Lakeville South (99)

Individuals to watch: Brianne Brewster (Lakeville South, 17:49.5), Liesl Paulsen (Eden Prairie, 17:59.2), Maggie Wagner (Edina, 18:05.3), Morgan Richter (Edina, 18:16.8)

The Skinny: 2018 individual champ Brianne Brewster returns to defend her title and will have the fastest PR in the field this season. Edina is the team favorite in our projections with potential for four in the top ten in what should be a large and competitive field. The race will be the first 5k for several of the teams including Edina and Eden Prairie. Lakeville South ran at St Olaf last week but Brewster did not race. Eden Prairie's Liesl Paulsen has a PR just ahead of Edina's Maggie Wagner and Morgan Richter but with teammate Macy Iyer just behind them, that group of three in any form is a formidable trio that should propel the Hornets to the front of the team scoring. If the projection holds true and Sadie Schreiner can follow her teammates into the top ten, Edina will be difficult to beat since no other team looks to have more than two runners in the top ten based on PR numbers.
