Athlete to Watch: Stillwaters Analee Weaver

---

What are some of your big goals for this outdoor track and field season?

I am going to be focusing on the mile and two-mile, and I am working hard to compete well at state in those events.

Are you more motivated to excel since last year's track and field season was canceled?

For sure- I haven't been able to set new PR's for a while, so that is something that I am looking forward to this season. I also am beyond excited to compete again because it brings me so much joy when I am able to create new limits and goals for myself. I am so grateful that we have a track meet on the schedule.

When last year's track season was canceled, how did that affect your training?

I continued to train, but not as many hard efforts. Mostly easy mileage that kept my legs moving.

What have you been up to since we last saw you on the track (training, racing, anything else)?

I have been training this winter, mostly alone. The weather is finally starting to warm up, and so training outside is much more enjoyable. I have been living in the moment and not taking anything for granted, because I don't know what's really going to happen this spring. I went to Utah over Christmas break and did some downhill skiing and snowmobiling. Definitely a lot of hot tub time and relaxation this winter. I have also been getting really excited for college, and I met my roommates and future teammates at BYU which was really fun!

What are you most looking forward to this upcoming season?

I am so excited to be with my teammates again and to train hard and easy with them. It makes me so happy to be part of such a wonderful team that supports each other. I am excited to get my legs moving at a quicker pace after some time off competing after cross country season. I am also excited to just enjoy my last high school season. It's definitely exciting to have goals to break my PR's from the 2019 track season and I look forward to the State meet in June. I am excited to see my friends from other schools, who will also be my biggest rivals :) I miss seeing everyone and I miss the smiles and laughs that happen at track meets, so I am looking forward to that.

How did it feel to break the state high school record in the 5K this fall?

Incredible. I felt so blessed and honored to represent my community in the sport and to be able to run. So many people put in countless hours to make meets happen and to ensure that we had the best season possible despite COVID. I am beyond grateful for the experience and everyone who helped me achieve that goal. Being able to see my name in the record books is unreal and such a privilege. It was a good close to my high school cross country seasons, and I am so grateful for that.

What has been your favorite memory from your high school running career?

Definitely Cross Country State 2019. It was an unexpected victory that I will never forget. I remember pulling away from the lead pack knowing that I was just gaining a couple of places for our team score. It didn't sink in that I had actually won until days later. The first thing I did was go over to my parents, who ran all over the whole course cheering me on (like they do at every single meet) and give them a huge hug. They were so proud of me, and all of my teammates and coaches were beyond excited for me as well. I think that race was a major turning point in my athletic career.

What made you choose BYU?

I really connected with the coach, and I trusted her right away. I think the program is outstanding and has great potential. I know that the school has a great culture and environment that will suit me. I also liked the location, because I love the mountains. BYU has major goals for their athletes and provides great education as well.
