The St. Kate's Athletic Department held their annual awards banquet to celebrate one of the most successful seasons in St. Kate's athletic history.

Highlights form the 2009-2010 year included:

- The highest finish, and most points, in the MIAC All-Sports standings in school history (8th 51.5 points).

- The hockey team reaching the MIAC Championship game in the playoffs after finishing second in the conference during the regular season.

- The Volleyball team finished tied for fourth in the MIAC, their best performance since 1993.

- The Wildcats also set 40 school records this past year, including 20 during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

Brady Williams Spirit Award
The list of award winners included a first-time award winner, professor Brady Williams. Williams is retiring after 30 years at St. Kate's, and was honored for his devotion to the athletic department. Whether is was working at the scorer's table in basketball, cheering in the rain for soccer or watching softball from behind home plate, Williams has been a highly visible and cherished member of the Wildcat athletic community who was seen at home and away contests in every Wildcat sporting event during his tenure at St. Kate's. For his devotion to the department and his student-athletes on the field of play, Williams was given the inaugural Brady Williams Spirit Award. This new award will now be given out each year to a student, faculty, staff, or community member who has supported Wildcat Athletics.

Rookie of the Year
First year volleyball student-athlete Nina Lindquist was named the St. Kate's Rookie of the Year. She received the award of being named MIAC Rookie of the Year in Volleyball. In her first season at St. Kate's she set the Wildcats single season record for set-assists with 1,159. She also finished first on the team with 41 service aces and fourth on the team in Digs with 265.

Shelia Brown Wildcat Award
Seniors Aryn Ball and Samantha Larson won the Shelia Brown Wildcat Award. The award, which is given each year to seniors who have made long-term contributions to the athletic program through not only their athletic accomplishments but their leadership, dedication and sportsmanship.

Ball was a four year letter winner, and three year team captain for the Wildcats. She was top four on the team in scoring all four years of her career. She also holds the record for most career short handed goals. Along with earning MIAC Honorable Mention and Sportsmanship awards, Ball was a three year member of WSAAC. She wa the president of WSAAC this past year, and helped led the successful Dig Pink and Toys for Teens campaigns this season. Ball also volunteered her time at TC Marathon and with Habitat for Humanity.


Larson was a four year letter winner in track & field. She holds the school record for the shot put, and has earned MIAC All-Conference Honors twice in that event. She is ranked 20th in the nation in the shot put, hoping to earn her first trip to the national meet this spring. Larson is a two year team captain and has been involved in WSAAC. She is also highly visible at Wildcat athletic events throughout the year as either a game worker, leading the cheering section, or serving as the Wildcat mascot at sporting events.

McCahill Athlete of the Year Award
For the first time in SCU history, the McCahill Athlete of the Year Award was given to two deserving student-athletes. Junior hockey standout Michaela Michaleson and senior cross country and track & field star Greta Sieve were co-recepients of this years award.

Michaelson was the overall leading goal scorer in the MIAC for the second consecutive season. She was also named to her third straight MIAC All-Conference team and become the first Wildcat hockey player in school history to be named MIAC Player of the Year. Michaelson was also named to the RBK West Region First Team All-American squad, and was one of only five finalist nation wide for the Laura Hurd National Player of the year award. Michaelson's athleticism and skills were a vital part of the Wildcats record setting season, and runner-up finish in the MIAC. The business administration and marketing major will be a team captain next fall for Coach Marshall's squad.

Sieve became the first two time athlete of the year award winner. After qualifying for the NCAA National Track & Field Championships last spring, Sieve took herself to the next level as a senior. Sieve became the highest SCU finisher in MIAC cross country history at both the conference and national meets as she finished 4th in the conference and 41st in the nation in the fall. She continued her steady improvement from there in her specialty sport, track. Sieve shattered all of her previous Wildcat school records during the indoor and outdoor track seasons, and set three more records. Sieve, who now holds seven individual and two relay records at St. Kate's, also won an MIAC title and set a conference meet record in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Sieve heads into next weekends NCAA National Championships ranked #6 in the nation in both the steeplechase and the 5,000 meter run.
