MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College's Whitney Holman (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors for the second time this school year, this time as a first-team recipient for women's cross country/track and field, it was announced on Thursday.

Earlier this year, Holman was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team in women's soccer for the second straight season. Thursday's honor is the first for Holman in track and field, as she was named as a first-team recipient in the College Division (non-Division I).

A religion and psychology major with a 3.96 grade-point average, Holman has earned multiple athletic and academic honors in both track and field and soccer during her Auggie career. A summa cum laude graduate, Holman was named Augsburg's Senior Honor Athlete in 2010, the highest honor given to Augsburg student-athletes.

In track and field, Holman earned All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors five times and All-MIAC honorable-mention honors six times in her career. She was also named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team three times in her track career, including both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2010. She also earned MIAC Athlete of the Week honors twice in her career.

This season, Holman won an individual MIAC title in the indoor 55-meter dash, while placing second in the outdoor 200-meter dash and fifth in the outdoor 200-meter dash. She was also a part of Augsburg's record-setting outdoor 400-meter relay, which qualified to compete at the NCAA Division III national championships. The relay squad broke school records four times this season, including a 47.88-second time to win the title at the MIAC championships.

In soccer, Holman started every game of the 71 in her career, playing her first two seasons as a forward and her last two as a defender. She finished her career with 10 goals and 10 assists for 30 points, including five game-winning goals. In 2009, Holman recorded three goals (two game-winners) and two assists for eight points.

Holman was an All-MIAC and All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team honoree in soccer in 2009, while earning All-MIAC honorable-mention honors in both 2007 and 2008. The Auggies finished 35-24-14 (.575) in her four seasons, with two trips to the conference postseason playoffs.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program, administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Top student-athletes from non-Division I programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ontario and Manitoba are eligible for inclusion on the district team. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.30 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams.

First-team Academic All-District members advance to the Academic All-America ballot, voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America women's track and field/cross country teams will be announced on June 24.
