These underclassmen didn't hold back this past weekend, starring across the sprints, distance, and throws. Both sophomores and freshmen across Minnesota made their presence known at some of the state's early-season meets.
Here's a look at four who stood out among the contenders!
Henslin won the 200m at the Early Red Bird Invitational with a 27.07, the fastest girls sprint mark in this group by a comfortable margin. No other underclassman in the meet came close to that number, and it puts her in a different conversation among sophomore sprinters in the state.
Omozegiele won the discus at the Chaska vs. Chanhassen dual with a 97-06 and finished second in the shot put at 29-11. Two throws events, one meet, and she led one and nearly led the other. She's one of the most complete throwers in the sophomore class.
Burrow won the 200m at the Early Red Bird Invitational at 24.46 and finished third in the 400m at 54.74 at the same meet. The 200m mark led all underclassmen boys this past week, and his ability to back it up in the 400m gives him a two-event sprint profile worth watching.
Yonkey's 47-09 in the shot put at the Mankato East Indoor Quad Invite leads all boys throws by nearly five feet. That kind of gap between first and second doesn't happen by accident, and it makes him the clear standout in the throws among this week's underclassmen performances.
