Schafer earns All-MIAC honorable-mention honors

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg College men's cross country team posted a 10th-place team finish at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at the Como Park Golf Course. The Auggies finished with 231 points, just behind St. Mary's, Gustavus and Concordia-Moorhead.

Leading the way for Augsburg was Matt Schafer (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) who finished in 19th place, recording a time of 26:50.6, earning All-MIAC honorable-mention honors. Schafer cut 16 seconds off his time from the 2009 MIAC championships.

Geoffrey Gillmor (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) recorded one of his best times of the season, crossing the finish line with a time of 27:31.9. Micheale Tesema (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) finished just behind Gilmor, recording a time of 27:33.8 in his first appearance at the MIAC championships.

Joe Arnold (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) and Dakota Darkstar (FY, Minneapolis/Southwest HS) rounded out the Augsburg top five, finishing with times of 28:17.9, and 28:26.7 respectively.

The Auggies are off until Nov. 13 when they travel to Waverly, Iowa to compete in the NCAA Division III Central Regional Meet.
