Telphia, sprinters lead Augsburg women

MEET RESULTS

MENOMONIE, Wis.-- Shanek Telphia (SO, Chicago, Ill./Gage Park HS) recorded a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash and added a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash to lead the Augsburg women's indoor track and field team at the University of Wisconsin-Stout Warren Bowlus Open on Saturday afternoon. No team results were recorded at the meet. 

Telphia's time of 1:00.39 in the 400-meter dash is the fastest time she has recorded during the 2011 indoor season, while her time of 26.72 seconds in the 200-meter dash is one of the fastest times recorded among MIAC participants this season. 

In addition to Telphia's performance, Augsburg sprinters Ashley Carney (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and Katie Vrieze (SR, Richfield, Minn.) each recorded top-10 finishes in the 55- and 200-meter dashes. Carney finished third in the 55-meter dash, recording a time of 7.57 seconds, while Vrieze finished in fifth place with a personal-best time of 7.65 seconds. Vrieze and Carney both set personal best times in the 200-meter dash, finishing in seventh and ninth places, respectively. 

Augsburg's Dawn Flowers (FY, Saint Paul, Minn./Arlington HS) finished in sixth place in the 200-meter race, recording a time of 27.29 seconds.

Other top Augsburg performers included middle-distance runners Jennifer Pulscher (JR, Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty HS) and Kacie Bahr (JR, Brainerd, Minn.). Pulscher recorded a second-place finish in the 1,000-meter run, finishing with a time of 3:28.40, while Bahr recorded a time of 1:46.63 in the 600-meter run to finish in sixth place.

Reigning MIAC Athlete of the Week Caroline Senungi (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) qualified for the finals of the 55-meter hurdles for the second weekend in a row, while recording a time of 8.92 in the prelims. Senungi went on to finish in seventh place in the 55 meter finals.

Pole vaulter Brittany Tuberg (SO, Apple Valley, Minn.) continued her solid start in the 2011 indoor season, finishing in fourth-place with a height of 3.10 meters in the pole vault.

Augsburg returns to action next Saturday (2/5) at Arden Hills in the Bethel University Invitational.
