Schafer sets school record

MINNESOTA SNOWSHOE OPEN RESULTS
ST. OLAF TOSTRUD CLASSIC RESULTS

MINNEAPOLIS -- Matthew Schafer (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) broke his own school record in the mile run and Nick Ward (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) recorded a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash to lead the Augsburg College men's track and field team at the University of Minnesota Snowshoe Open Friday evening. No team results were recorded.

Schafer added another impressive performance to his successful indoor season, breaking his own school record with a time of 4:20.70 in the mile run. Schafer had previously set the school record at the Meet of Hearts at Carleton last weekend. Schafer currently owns the fifth-fastest time among Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference participants in the mile this season.

Ward finished with a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash while recording a time of 7.01 seconds. Ward, who finished as the top NCAA Division III participant in the field on Friday, currently owns the fastest 55-meter dash time in the MIAC this season.

Joe Arnold (JR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) recorded a ninth-place finish in the 400-meter dash, finishing the race with a time of 51.08 seconds. Arnold currently holds the third-fastest time in the 400 among MIAC participants during the 2011 indoor season.

Rick Wolke (JR, Belle Plaine, Minn.) recorded a time of 51.42 seconds in the 400-meter dash to finish in 12th place.

In the field events, Shane Pantila (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) recorded a distance of 13.18 meters (43-feet-3.0) in the triple jump competition to finish in sixth place.

On Saturday, the Auggies traveled to Northfield, Minn. to participate in the St. Olaf College Tostrud Classic. No team results were recorded at the event.

In the sprint events, Gil Millette (SO, Brainerd, Minn.) finished fifth in the 55-meter dash while recording a personal-best time of 6.86 seconds. Millette later would add a season-best performance in the 200-meter dash, recording a time of 24.20 seconds.

Wolke recorded a time of 6.71 seconds in the 55-meter dash prel, but did not compete in the finals of the event.

Jacob Wolf (FY, Elk River, Minn.) recorded a season-best time of 53.31 seconds in the 400-meter dash, while Peter Osborn (FY, Eagan, Minn./Eastview HS) recorded a season-best time of 1:20.33 in the 600-yard dash.

Dakota Darkstar (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest HS) recorded a fifth-place finish in the 1,000 meter run, finishing with a season-best time of 2:40.70, while fellow first-year runner Hunter Melius (FY, Shakopee, Minn.) also recorded a season-best time of 4:44.52 in the mile run.

In the relays, the Augsburg 1,600-meter relay squad raced to a second-place finish with a time of 3:33.83.

In the field events, Ward recorded a first-place finish in the long jump competition as he recorded a distance of 6.48 meters (21-feet-3.5). Ward currently owns the top distance this season in the MIAC.

Augsburg returns to action on Friday (2/25) when it travels to Northfield, Minn., again to take part in the St. Olaf College Qualifier Meet.
