COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Augsburg College sprinter Nick Ward (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) competing in his first NCAA Division III national meet, recorded a time of 6.448 seconds in the preliminaries of the men's 55-meter dash at the indoor track and field national championships at Capital University on Friday, falling one-thousandth of a second short of reaching the finals in the event.

Ward's time ranked as the ninth-fastest performance in the field of 16 competitors, and fell just .001 seconds away from qualifying for the event finals on Saturday afternoon. Ward was one of seven Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes competing at the NCAA men's national meet this weekend, and was the only MIAC representative in the 55-meter dash field.

One of the top sprinters in school history, Ward earned conference titles in both the men's 55 and long jump at the MIAC indoor meet earlier this season, winning the 55 for the third year in a row and the long jump for the second straight year. He also placed third in the men's 200-meter dash and was part of a fourth-place 800-meter relay squad. In his career, Ward has earned six MIAC titles, 11 All-MIAC honors and seven All-MIAC honorable-mention honors.

Ward and the Auggies open the outdoor portion of the season next weekend (3/19) at the University of Southern California Trojan Open in Los Angeles, Calif.
