Tuberg sets vault record at Trojan Invite

MEET RESULTS

LOS ANGELES -- Brittany Tuberg (SO, Apple Valley, Minn.) broke her own school record in the pole vault to lead the Augsburg women's track and field team in its outdoor season-opener at the University of Southern California Trojan Invite this past weekend. No team results were recorded at the meet.

Tuberg recorded a height of 3.35 meters (10-feet-11.75) at the meet, eclipsing her previous high mark by .05 meters. Tuberg, who set the previous school record last season at the Hamline University Twilight Meet, finished fourth in the pole vault Saturday.

Augsburg sprinter Shanek Telphia (SO, Chicago, Ill./Gage Park HS) began the outdoor portion of the season on a high note, recording top finishes in the 200-meter dash and long jump. Telphia ran the 200 in 25.80 seconds to finish in 13th place, and would later add a seventh-place finish in the long jump, recording a distance of 5.26 meters (17-feet-3.25). Telphia's finish in the 200 was the highest among NCAA Division III competitors in the field.

Caroline Senungi (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) finished 10th in the 100-meter hurdles, recording a time of 15.41 seconds. Senungi's time marks her best outdoor performance in the 100 since the 2009 season.

Other top performers for Augsburg in the sprint competitions included Ashley Carney (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) who recorded a time of 12.97 seconds in the 100-meter dash; and Dawn Flowers (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Arlington HS) who recorded a time of 26.60 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Katie Vrieze (SR, Richfield, Minn.) finished 15th in the 400-meter dash, recording a time of 59.47 seconds.

In the relays, the Augsburg 400-meter relay team of Flowers, Carney, Vrieze and Telphia recorded a time of 48.84 seconds to finish in seventh place.

The Auggies are scheduled to return to action on April 2 at the Hamline University Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
