MIAC TRACK ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MINNEAPOLIS-- Augsburg College track and field sprinter
Nick Ward (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn.) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the Conference office on Monday.
At Saturday's Wisconsin-River Falls Falcon Invitational, Ward claimed top honors the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 10.93 seconds to pull away from a field that included sprinters from NCAA Division II and III institutions. The win marked the second week in a row in which Ward claimed top honors in the 100, having won at the Hamline University Invitational on April 2.
In addition to his performance in the 100, Ward also helped the Augsburg 4x100 meter relay team to a second-place finish over the weekend. The relay team's time of 42.11 seconds marks the top performance of any MIAC men's 4x100 team this season and is just shy of the 41.95 NCAA provisional time.
According to the raceberryjam.com website, Ward currently owns top times among MIAC competitors in the 100, 200-meter, and long jump competitions, and his time of 10.79 seconds in the 100 is a NCAA national championship provisional time. A two-time MIAC champion in the 100, Ward is aiming for his third-career MIAC title later this season.
It's the fourth time Ward has earned MIAC athlete of the week honors in his career, and marks the second time he has won the award this season.
Augsburg returns to action this Saturday (4/16) at 12 p.m. at the Concordia-St. Paul Holst Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
