Telphia wins 400 at Capitol City

MEET RESULTS

SAINT PAUL, Minn.-- Shanek Telphia (SO, Chicago, Ill./Gage Park HS) finished in first-place and recorded an NCAA championship provisional time in the women's 400-meter dash to lead the Augsburg College women's track and field team at the Capitol City Championships hosted by Hamline University Thursday evening. No team results were recorded at the meet.

Telphia's time of 57.02 earned the sprinter her first 400 victory of the 2011 outdoor season. Telphia currently holds the fastest 100, 200 and 400-meter times among MIAC participants this season, and ranks fifth in the long jump.

Other top performers for Augsburg on Thursday included sprinter Dawn Flowers (FY, Saint Paul, Minn./Arlington Senior HS) who finished fourth in the 100-meter dash, recording a season-best time of 13.26 seconds in the race.

Sprinter Katie Vrieze (SR, Richfield, Minn.) recorded two top-10 finishes Thursday, as she finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.62, and 10th in the 400, clocking a time of 1:01.17.

Augsburg hurdler Caroline Senungi (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) recorded the fifth-fastest preliminary time in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing her heat with a time of 16.35 seconds. Senungi currently holds the fifth-fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles among MIAC participants.

In the field events, Kandace Bostick (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Burnsville HS) recorded a 10th place finish in the long jump competition, finishing with a distance of 4.85 meters (15-11), while Augsburg thrower Erin Leyden (SR, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South HS) recorded a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw, reaching a mark of 43.01 meters (141-01). The distance marks Leyden's top-performance of the season, and ranks as the seventh-best mark among MIAC performers in the hammer throw this year.

Augsburg returns to action next Wednesday (4/27) again at Hamline University for the Pipers annual Twlight Meet.
