Telphia, relay win titles at MIAC Championships

SAINT PETER, Minn.-- Augsburg sprinters Kandace Bostick (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Burnsville HS), Ashley Carney (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS), Katie Vrieze (SR, Richfield, Minn.) and Shanek Telphia (SO, Chicago, Ill./Gage Park HS) claimed a first-place finish in the women's 4x100-meter relay event to lead the Augsburg women's track and field team at the MInnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference outdoor championships, held Friday and Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus College.

As a team, Augsburg placed seventh at the MIAC Meet with 53 points. The seventh-place finish marks the highest Augsburg has finished at the outdoor conference championship meet since 1996. 

The Augsburg win in the 400-meter relay marks the second consecutive year that the team has won the event at the MIAC outdoor championship meet, as the quartet of Bostick, Carney, Vrieze, and Telphia recorded an NCAA Championship Meet provisional time of 48.39 seconds.

Telphia won the conference championship in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 25.87. The win marked the fourth outdoor conference title and sixth overall during Telphia's career. In addition to her performance in the 200, Telphia also recorded a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 12.90 seconds, and a fourth-place finish in the long jump while recording a season-best distance of 5.38 meters (17-8). 

Carney recorded a second-place finish in the 100, recording a time of 13.001 seconds, while Vrieze recorded a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.75 seconds.

Augsburg hurdler Caroline Senungi (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) recorded a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, as she completed the race in a time of 16.05 seconds.

In the field events, Augsburg pole vaulter Brittany Tuberg (SO, Apple Valley, Minn.) recorded one of her top-performances of the season to finish in sixth-place with a height of 3.31 meters (10-10.25).       

The Auggies will wrap up the outdoor portion of the season at the University of LaCrosse Last Chance Meet on Thursday (5/19).
