Several Minnesota high school athletes recorded personal bests at MSHSL sectional championships during the week of May 25.
Desmond Smith (Albert Lea) ran 10.95 in the 100 meters at the Section 1AA Championships on May 28, improving from his previous best of 11.74. The mark ranks 57th in the state and 30th among seniors. Smith placed sixth in a field of 33 competitors.
Sivanna Schwartz (Faribault) clocked 12.66 in the 100 meters at the Section 1AA Championships on May 28, dropping her personal best from 13.39. The time moves her to 104th in Minnesota and 28th among senior girls. Schwartz finished third of 31 runners.
Danika Bulfer (Northfield) ran 15.33 in the 100-meter hurdles at the Section 1AA Championships on May 28, improving from 16.21 set in May 2026. The mark places her 30th in the state rankings. Bulfer also set a personal best in the 300-meter hurdles, running 45.43 to improve from 46.57.
Evan Lamberg (Foley) jumped 21-9.75 in the long jump at the Section 5AA Championships on May 27, bettering his previous best of 19-10. The mark sets a school record and ranks 39th in Minnesota and 20th among senior boys. Lamberg placed third among 31 competitors.
Carlos Noriega (Burnsville) threw 155-9 in the discus at the Section 3AA/3AAA Championships on May 27, improving from 136-11. The mark ranks 34th in the state. Noriega also set a personal best in the shot put with 44-3.25, up from 43-9.
Alexie Awe (Kasson-Mantorville) won the 200 meters at the Section 1AA Championships on May 28 in 26.13, improving from 27.21. The time ranks 96th in Minnesota and 28th among junior girls.
Kemiah Avery (North Saint Paul) ran 25.26 in the 200 meters at the Section 4AAA Championships on May 26, dropping her personal best from 26.74. The mark ranks 29th in the state. Avery placed second in a field of 23 runners.
