Minnesota Track & Field: Section Championship Highlights

We are just a couple of days out from Minnesota crowning its 2026 state champions. Here are some athletes who recorded impressive results at the section meets and are worth keeping an eye on during the state championships.

Boys

Jaxon Ziebarth, the senior from Cambridge-Isanti High School, dominated the sprints at the MSHSL Section 5AAA/7AAA Championships. In the prelims of the 100m, Ziebarth clocked a new personal best of 10.50 before he went on to win the final in 10.66. He returned to the track in the 200m, running a blistering 21.87 to claim victory there too.

Later at the MSHSL Section 5AAA/7AAA Championships in the 400m, Justin Richard came from third in the prelims to win the final with a personal best. The junior from Blaine High School recorded a 49.05 as he broke the tape. Richards also stepped onto the runway, leaping a lifetime best 46-6 to take the bronze in the triple jump.

Over the 800m at the MSHSL Section 5AAA/7AAA Championship, Aaron Peterson threw down the #2 time in the state this season. The senior from Anoka High School ran a personal record of 1:51.98 as he crossed the line in first.

Minnesota saw two more athletes clear the high jump bar of 6-8 this past weekend. Anoka High School's Isaiah Salami set his new season best as he took first at the MSHSL Section 5AAA/7AAA Championships. Over at the MSHSL Section 1AAA Championships, Lakeville South senior Oliver Haberman won the boys' high jump while setting his new personal best. Both athletes are tied at #3 in Minnesota for the high jump.

Adrian Miles of Alexandria High School won the MSHSL Section 8AAA Championships boys' shot put and discus. The sophomore recorded a 59-8.5 shot put and set a new lifetime best of 183-10 in the discus. Miles ranks #4 in the shot put and #3 in the discus for Minnesota.

Girls

At the MSHSL Section 6AAA Championships, Maddie Gullickson ran away from the field in the girls' 1600m and 3200m. The senior from Wayzata clocked season bests in both events, 4:45.39 and 10.23.15. Gullickson leads the Minnesota in both distance events.

Later on at the MSHSL Section 6AAA Championships , Buffalo High School senior Rose Lamberts won the 300m hurdles in a new lifetime best of 42.09 over the long hurdles. She leads the state in the event.

Emma Kvant improves her top performances in the state at the MSHSL Section 8AAA Championships. The senior from Saint-Michael-Albertville High School set two new personal bests as she claimed the victory in both the 200m and 400m. Kvant ran 24.03 in the half-lap and 53.32 in the full-lap race, ranked #2 and #1 in the state.

Over the bar at the MSHSL Section 4A Championships, Mayah Otto won the girls' high jump with a new state lead. From Saint Croix Lutheran High School, the senior cleared 5-7 to achieve a new personal best and the top mark in Minnesota.

Later on the runway at the MSHSL Section 4A Championships, McKaylen Lewis of Math & Science Academy improved her best season mark as she won the girls' long jump title. Lewis jumped 20-0 to claim the victory and became the only girl this season to jump over 19 ft in the state.
