Minnesota Track & Field: Section Championship Highlights

We are just a couple of days out from Minnesota crowning its 2026 state champions. Here are some athletes who recorded impressive results at the section meets and are worth keeping an eye on during the state championships. 

Boys

Jaxon Ziebarth, the senior from Cambridge-Isanti High School, dominated the sprints at the MSHSL Section 5AAA/7AAA Championships. In the prelims of the 100m, Ziebarth clocked a new personal best of 10.50 before he went on to win the final in 10.66. He returned to the track in the 200m, running a blistering 21.87 to claim victory there too.

Later at the MSHSL Section 5AAA/7AAA Championships in the 400m, Justin Richard came from third in the prelims to win the final with a personal best. The junior from Blaine High School recorded a 49.05 as he broke the tape. Richards also stepped onto the runway, leaping a lifetime best 46-6 to take the bronze in the triple jump.
