Stillwater Boys and Monticello Girls Win Lions Meet of Champions

Boys Results

Zach Roozen (Mounds View) takes medalist honors at Saturday's Lions Meet of Champions at Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria, MN with a time of 15:49 - one of 5 runners to break the 16-minute mark.  Nationally ranked Stillwater (#13) dominated the field by sweeping all three races on the boys side.  The Class AA #1 ranked Ponies placed their first 3 runners in the top 10 - state-ranked Wayde Hall in 2nd, state-ranked Eric Colvin in 5th and state-ranked Tom Linner in 7th - and all 5 scoring runners in the top 25.  They also had a  nearly perfect score in the JV race by taking places 1, 2, 4, 5, and 7.  Class AA #8 White Bear Lake took second with Joel Reichow taking 8th and Sean Scott in 17th place.  Class A ranked St. Cloud Cathedral took 3rd place with strong performances by state-ranked Nick Golebiowski and Cole Wintheiser, both achieving personal bests in the 5000 meter race.

Girls Results

Jamie Piepenburg (Alexandria Jefferson) three-peats on her home course with a time of 14:20 in Saturday's race which had all 6 ranked runners finishing in the top spots and the top 7 runners completing the course in under 15 minutes.  Piepenburg's teammates, 8th grade twins Megan and Bethany Hasz, finished in 3rd and 4th place respectively with Bemidji's Jenna Truedson taking 2nd place.  Nationally ranked Monticello (#13) claimed the top team honors with all 5 scoring runners in the top 15 in an impressive team performance.   Class A #1 St. Cloud Cathedral finished in 2nd place, placing all 5 scoring runners in the top 30.  Cathedral's Elena Danielson, currently ranked at #4 in the Class A coach's rankings finished in 5th place.  Roseville finished in 3rd place in the team standings.
