United South Central/Alden-Conger’s Emily Mantor put the finishing touches on a highly successful season Friday at the Minnesota State High School League state track and field championships at Hamline University.

As the 3,200-meter race unfolded, Mantor settled into ninth place in the strong field of runners, with a deficit of approximately 30-meters between her and the eighth-place runner.

Mantor made up ground moving into fifth place in the final 10-meters of the race. She finished the race in 11 minutes, 25.65 seconds.

“Emily has had a phenomenal season,” Rebels coach Kent Viesselman said. “Especially in view of the fact that her best time in the 3,200 last year was a little over 15:20. An improvement of four minutes in one year is unbelieveable. She caught fire last summer and really had a productive summer of training last year.”

Mantor was beaten only twice this season in her specialty, the 3,200-meter run. The first time was at the Hamline Elite Meet, where only the best runners in Minnesota compete head to head, regardless of class. The second was Friday at the state championships.
