In the Class A Girl's team rankings the top 6 remain relatively unchange with Blake and Fairmont changing places at #5 and #6. Dover-Eyota/St. Charles jumps from #10 to #7 and Perham replaces Park Rapids at the #12 spot. Individually the top 5 also remain the same. Freshman Leah Jessen (Canby-Minneota) moves into the rankings at #6 following two impressive performances at Montevideo and Willmar. The Class A Boy's rankings show very little change in the team lineup. Individually, the top 5 also remain the same. Byron Schuldt (Nevis) continues to move up in the polls and is at #6 this week. Aaron Haley (Plainview-Elgin-Milville) returns to the rankings at #7 after dropping out last week and Nick Stokes (Canby-Minneota) and Charlie Lawrence (Foley) move into the rankings at #11 and # 12 respectively. Class AA Girl's sees Minnetonka jumping from #12 to #6 and Wayzata and Roseville dropping down to #11 and #12 from the middle of the polls. Individually, Maria Hauger (Shakopee) and Jamie Piepenburg (Alexandria) remain in the #1 and #2 spots and three new faces move into the polls: Nicole Heitzman (Andover), Laura Lawton (Eden Prairie) and Steph Murray (Rochester Century) take over the #10, #11 and #12 spots. Class AA Boy's has White Bear Lake dropping from #6 to #10 and Roseville moving into the rankings at #12. Cole O'Brien makes an impressive move to the #3 spot following a strong performance at the Victoria Lions Invitational. Kyle Bratrud (Eden Prairie) moves into the rankings at #8 and Christian Skaret (Minnetonka) moves in at #12.
Once again, we see some movement in the polls, both for teams and individuals. With the state meet only one month away, we will soon have the opportunity to see how all of this will play out! In Class A Boys, the top 5 teams are shuffled around slightly but the rest of the field remains the same. Individually, Brandon Clark's (The Blake School) impressive performance at Swain this weekend gives him the nod for a top 5 appearance while Jackson Lindquist (Esko) moves into the rankings at #6. Brendan Skime (Thief River Falls) reappears in the rankings at #11 and Justin Cook (Jackson County Central) moves in at #12. For Class A Girls, the top 5 teams hold their ground but there is some shuffling around in the remaining group, with Park Rapids moving in at #12 and Perham dropping out of the rankings. Individually, Whitney Wilgenburg (Hills Beaver Creek/Ellsworth) makes an impressive entrance into the rankings, debuting at the #4 slot, following a 2nd place finish at Milaca and an impressive win at Murray County Central last week. Marisa Shady (Esko) also moves into the rankings at #11. In Class AA, both boys and girls team rankings remian unchanged as do the girls individual rankings. For the boys, Mark Harries (Wayzata) moves in at #12 and Bryant Blahnik (Red Wing) jumps to #7.
After a big weekend of races there are a few new names showing up in the polls this week. This past weekend saw over 7,500 Minnesota junior high and high school runners competing in races Friday afternoon and Saturday, making for a great opportunity to see some of MInnesota's top runners.
There is some shifting at all levels this week, most notably Holy Family Catholic breaking into the top 5 for Girls Class A, Minnetonka dropping out of the top 5 in Girls Class AA. The boys top 5 teams shift around but remain at the top of the polls in both Class A and AA.
There has been some movement in the polls since last week's release. See the polls below.
Class AA ranking released today put both Eden Prairie's boys and girls cross country teams at the top. Defending Class AA champions, Eden Prairie's boys maintain their #1 ranking from the pre-season polls. The girls jumped from the #3 spot to #1.
