Interestingly, the most impressive Swain performance since 1999, and arguably ever, was run in the 2008 JV Boys competition by International transfer Jakub Zivec for Grand Rapids High School. Not allowed to run varsity as per MSHSL's transfer rules, his run of 15:01 on the soft, hilly course has only one other time within 50 seconds of it ever since the course was extended to 5K in 1993. The notoriously difficult course may not be as challenging now as it was ten years ago due to slight course changes, but the fame of it's challenge is perhaps second to only the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota high school competition.
