Finally Joining Track Payed Off For Christian Davis

Christian Davis, Class of 2019 - Maranatha Christian Academy (competes for Providence Academy)

What are all your personal records?  What State Meet competitions have you been in, and what were your results?

400m: 50.14
200m: 23.66
Long Jump: 20'1.75"

Last year I finished 5th at State in the 400m and 6th in the 4x200.

How did you first get involved with track, and what other sports have you done?

I first got involved in track when I was 13, but did not even complete the season.  My mom had been pushing me to try it because she knew I had speed, the love of competition as well as endurance.  I remember her saying "you'd be a really good 400 runner", and I would always say "oh no anything but the the 400, that's like torture!"  Well look at me now! My opinion has NOT changed on bit, but I learned to love it in a crazy way.  I also play basketball and football.

Who might we find cheering for you at competitions?

My parents and 2 younger brothers.   Last year at the State Meet I could hear my mom cheering for me over everyone.  She knows exactly the spot on the track when I could use that extra push.

What are your main goals for this track season?

My goals for this year is to win Sections and the State Meet.  Everything else will follow once these are accomplished.

Do you have any rituals, routines, or superstitions either on or off the track?

Before running I always pray, strategize, meditate, and visualize myself achieving my goal.

Who are some people that have been most helpful to you in your athletic career, and how have they helped you?

People that have been most helpful to me are Coach Hohenecker is a great coach.   She and the other coaches have both help to maximize my potential as a individual, and an athlete.

What is your favorite or most memorable competition you've ever been in?

The State Meet was such a great experience for me.  I just remember being in awe and thinking I will be back here!  Also, I remember the first time running the 400 I started off being so upset, and thinking I just want to get this over with, and go home.  As soon as I crossed the finish line,  I knew I wanted more and I knew this was going to be my race!

When not doing anything track-related, what might we find you doing?

When I'm not running track, you will find me working out, playing basketball, socializing, or watching sports.

What advice would you give to younger athletes, or athletes just starting out in track?

I would share, the reason that I love this sport is that you get out what you put in.  Your hard work will or lack of will be exposed!  So always give it 100%.

What are you and your teammates looking forward to the most this year?

My teammates and I are looking forward to seeing all of our hard work payoff!
