Grace Johnson, Red Wing, Sr.
Grace Johnson broke onto the State Meet scene as an eighth grader in 2015 with an 18:44 performance that placed 25th. Since then she has been up and down placing 31st as freshman and missing State entirely as a sophomore. Last season she showed signs of tapping the potential of her early career with a 17th place finish at State. A week later she blew away the field at the NXR open race with a career PR of 18:15.8, 15th fastest in the state last year. Johnson reached new levels in the spring when she set a 1600m PR of 5:09.27 and broke 11 minutes in the 3200 two times. Her PR of 10:53.6 came at Hamline Elite and represented the second fastest time by an underclassman last year. It will be intriguing to see how that improvement translates to this fall.
