Last fall, Maddie Kelly posted a solid 19:08.4 PR to finish tenth at XC State and came back in the spring to earn a 5th/4th place 32/16 double at Track State. Her 5:03.28 1600m PR ran at the State Meet ranked 4th in the state on the year. After spending much of the previous season rebounding from an injury in the summer of 2017, it appears Kelly is back to form that produced three XC state berths (72nd, 48th and 4th place) in her first three years at the varsity level. She also qualified for state twice in the 1600 and once 3200 before last season. While her XC PR is outside the top 10 among returners, Kelly has raced well at cross country state previously. This spring in Hamline's elite 1600 and at the Class A state finals, she bettered many of the runners with faster times on the grass.
